Purpose of the Role

To ensure the effective receipt, storage, handling, and despatch of goods within the warehouse and factory stores. The Warehouse Operative plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining accurate stock control, safe handling of products, and timely preparation of customer orders.

Key Responsibilities

Goods In & Storage:

  • Receive, check, and book in deliveries of raw materials, components, and consumables.
  • Accurately record deliveries against purchase orders and flag discrepancies.
  • Safely move, store, and organise stock in designated warehouse and factory areas.

Stock Control:

  • Maintain accurate stock levels using the company’s stock management systems.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and cycle checks.
  • Report stock shortages, damages, or quality issues promptly.

Order Picking & Despatch:

  • Accurately pick, pack, and prepare customer orders for despatch.
  • Ensure goods are labelled, palletised, and loaded in line with customer requirements.
  • Liaise with transport providers and assist in loading vehicles.

Health & Safety:

  • Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment safely (training provided if required).
  • Comply with company Health & Safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.

Teamwork & Communication:

  • Work closely with the Team Leader, Production, and Quality teams to support smooth operations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding stock, orders, and priorities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse.

Person Specification.

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, stores, or logistics role.
  • Ability to follow processes and pay close attention to detail.
  • Good level of physical fitness (role involves manual handling).
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic IT skills for stock entry and order processing.
  • Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance and/or Reach).

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of despatch, logistics, or export documentation.
