Job Purpose

To produce accurate 2D and 3D engineering designs and drawings to support manufacturing, sales, and installation of industrial chain and materials handling equipment. This role provides vital technical support to ensure that products are designed and manufactured to specification, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create precise technical drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor / AutoCAD for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Reverse engineer specifications and drawings from existing parts, photographs, or basic customer information.
  • Support colleagues and customers across sales, manufacturing, and installation activities with technical expertise.
  • Design and detail fabrications for manufacture and assembly (e.g., conveyor sections, slide valves, conveyor chains, sprockets, and sheet metal components).
  • Provide clear interpretation of technical drawings to the manufacturing team, responding to queries and ensuring information is accurate and complete.
  • Ensure all drawings and designs comply with company standards, industry regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives within the technical and production teams.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical handling and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture and basic metallurgical principles (materials and heat treatments).
  • Skilled in reverse engineering customer samples and/or site-collected data.
  • Competent in using calibrated measuring instruments (e.g., vernier callipers, micrometres).
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Team-oriented with a flexible, collaborative approach.

Desirable:

  • Formal training in Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience in the materials handling industry.
  • Knowledge of raising product codes and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Exposure to continuous improvement and problem-resolution practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Mechanical/Design Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Applications welcomed from both experienced engineers and high-performing engineering graduates with relevant skills.

Working Conditions

  • Based in the technical office.
  • Standard hours: Monday–Thursday 8:30–17:00, Friday 8:30–14:30.
  • Occasional light lifting and visits to customer sites, which may involve dusty environments.
  • PPE provided and required when on the shop floor or on site.
