18.3 Welded Steel Chain as ISO DP6972, ANSI B29-16

Since the 1980’s in recognising the steady decline of cast link chains (Primarily Combination, 400 series and Mill duty) in favour of Welded Steel Chains the company have supplied this series. Over the years JOHN KING have standardised on higher specifications with heat treated versions (covered by prefixes WH, WHX and WHIBR since improved performance and added value has proven unequivocal.
There are distinct advantages associated with this high performance product which are achieved through the unique construction of welded steel chain. The bush as opposed to being press fit is circumferentially welded for maximum integrity. The crank link form enhances load bearing capability and the “premium” heat treatment options ensure high fatigue strength, wear resistance and service life.
On high impact applications such as log decks the pins are generally riveted with an oversized rivet head for maximum rigidity. The Grain process industry will generally use cottered construction chain. On the narrow series WH parts are through hardened for toughness, with WHX the pin is additionally induction surface hardened for wear resistance and the suffix IBR includes selective induction hardening to both pin and bush.
King WDH Wide series Drag chains are produced with heat treated pins, barrels and plates as standard (see WH for appropriate specification).
