19.2 Dismounting chain from sprockets

  1. Create slack in system by releasing take up.
  2. Restrain sprockets from rotating and secure chain from both sides of disassembly point.
  3. Apply penetrating oil around connectors.
  4. Remove connector where chain wraps around sprocket. Supporting chain against removal force with heavy bar or tubing held against opposite side of chain and sprocket.
  5. If type 2 connector grind riveted end of connector flush with sidebar.
  6. Remove split pin or solid cotter if present or cut end flush with pin.
  7. Where appropriate use press equipment to remove connectors.
